Prof. Emeritus Datin Dr Rahmah binti Bujang

(MA,PHD- UK, Hull)
(PROFESSOR of University Malaya for 16 years from 1994 to 2009)


  • Co-founder of BAKA Group - Together with her late husband, BAKA Founder Dato’ Azman Wan Chik started the BAKA programme.

  • Professor of University Malaya from 1994 to 2009, attached to Academy of Malay Studies. Joined as academic staff of UM since 1969 – first as Tutor, Lecturer, Associate Professor (in 1984), and Professor (in 1994). Held the position as a Senior Research Fellow since March 2009.

  • Her Life Experiences Include:
    Director of Cultural Centre, University Malaya for 3 years (1996 to 1999)
    Head of Malay Arts Department of Academy of Malay Studies for 12 years from 1995 to 2006 (a post she held concurrently while holding the post of Director of Cultural Centre).
    Internal and External Assessor for PhD and Masters Thesis of local universities.
    Evaluator of academic status of higher institutions for Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) later under the name of Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
    Planned and started the academic programme for Cultural Centre, University Malaya, in the learning and teaching of Performing Arts (first batch enrolled in 1997). Also planned and started the Malay Arts Department of the Academy of Malay Studies, University Malaya (in 1995).
    Served as panel of judges for state and national level theatre productions and drama writing competitions during art festivals, usually as the Head of panel, in the 1990s under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Arts.
    Served as panel and Chair in the Terminology Committee for Drama and Theatre and Arts for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka since 1980s.
    Served as Chairperson/ President of the Malaysian Theatre Association (TEMA) in the 1980s and 1990s. Presently as one of its Advisors.
    President of the Women for World Peace Association Malaysia (WFWP) – held the post since 1990s till 2015.
She has written many academic books and creative literary works of drama, directed plays and a recipient of Malaysia Literary Award (Anugerah Sastera Perdana) for Drama 1998/99.
